The greatest deficiency and pitfall among Christians of our epoch is spiritual superficiality. This has not been without problems within divine positions in Kenya and around the globe. Lack of deep sited dedication to true faith has turned Christianity into an engagement with no spiritual implications. In his letter to ‘them that have obtained precious faith’, Peter urges them to grow in grace and in knowledge of Jesus Christ. (2 Pet 3:17-18) He points this as the sure way to avoid erroneous means that threatened to pluck them from the ways of truth since the day of the Lord was and is near.  In regard to the current state within Christian circles Peter’s reproach is worth a visit.

It is a bitter pill in the mouth to see the enemy masquerading and running state of affairs. The many accidents, family break ups, rumors of war and terrorism which includes recent Westgate attack are gaping cracks on our social and spiritual fabric. Our social and political happenings continue pointing to turmoil and renewed atrocities. Even with this, we cannot allow the army of Christ to be reduced to ‘firemen’ from ‘watchmen.’ If we remain as the latter, we will detect disasters and our errors in the spirit and avert it in real time rather than being the former where we normally recite public prayers in event of catastrophes and downfalls. This comes at a prerequisite to leave our comfort zones to embrace full divine maturity and brokenness. Abraham negotiated with God over Sodom and Gomorrah. Even though the sinful were destroyed, Lot was saved and his maturity and righteousness warranted his stand. Be told: a hearing ear and a discerning spirit come in handy in moments such as these.

It is true that we are in a multi deity age but the existence of one mighty everlasting God must sink deep within us. Whoever decides to follow Him must keep His commands and preach them as they are. How is it that nowadays we contend with false teachers who enhance rot in churches, gatherings and airwaves? There is no worry about such for swift destruction is on their way.(2 Pet 2). Instead, great worry is for the brethren who the word of God is not part of their intake and who cannot rise above a common hoodwink.  To tap from God we must follow way of faith with devout obedience and consistency in his holy word.  This is the only way to counter the advent of material philosophy which reduces relationship with God to a symbiosis engagement.

The writer of the Ecclesiastical counsel was the wisest brain that the world can ever fathom. He denoted the various evils that had occurred and that surely grieved his heart. In one conclusive remark he noted that the days of the evil will not be long. (Eccl 8:13)Well, it is important to know that the 21st century lifestyle is not without such. Every place is diseased with medicine men and prominent helpers operating under the evil one. Use of “waganga” to cast out evil in coast and Lake Region and other areas right under our noses and in full TV broadcast is simply unacceptable. The plan of the devil is to make these things a common and usual practice until the community is completely arrested and falls back from God. Why should we expose power of God to such derision and imminent critique? It is high time we rose and took our stand. Hebraic Christians were assured that the kingdom of God cannot be shaken (Heb 12:28). Even now this is our call to exploit the power of prayer over these insidious misdeeds.

We are the remnants and Gods chosen people. As the word of God was to Elijah we are within the protection and preservation of our heavenly Father. Blessed is the man who has not only tasted Him and knows He is good but also who trusts, loves and works his ways with fear and trembling. The church in Sardis (Rev 3:2) was urged to ‘strengthen the things which remain’, for its works were not perfect. It is in spirit of this allusion, that I propose a faithful devotion to our calling from humble cleaning of the pews to miraculous works. Lets open our eyes to see the times and seasons of God as we purpose to listen to him. With this we will not only climb out of spiritual superficiality but also wake up in image of Him who is immutably perfect.
