We are affiliated to FOCUS (Fellowship of Christian Unions) Kenya, a national body that networks CUs in universities and colleges all over Kenya. It brings together over 60 institutions.
The first inter-denominational Christian movement was established in 1957 as the royal Technical College Christian Union with a meager membership of 30 students in the then Royal Technical College. Its aim was to provide relevant and student-oriented spiritual nourishment that the students could identify with. With this small number of membership, the Christian Union (C.U) used to hold its services in the common rooms at the halls of residence, currently referred to as rooms. The first CU chairman was Rtd. Archbishop Dr. David Gitari. Many great people have walked the path behind him; Bishops, Apostles, Pastors, Politicians of influence, Academicians, great career men and many other professionals.
As years went by, the student enrolment significantly increased. Consequently, the C.U. membership increased considerably and hence common rooms could no longer hold the numbers. Today, MCCU holds all its services in Taifa Hall.
Main Campus Christian Union (MCCU) was registered on June 10 th 1975, the same year it was issued with a registration certificate. As the recognized body of protestant believers in the University of Nairobi, MCCU has been more than united family in Christ. Step by step, the union has grown in extending Godly comfort and love of Christ to many. The programs that exist in MCCU today have a rich spiritual background. Sunday services and Friday fellowships began many years back and continue to run until today.
MCCU has been the mother to many Christian unions of the University of Nairobi. The University of Nairobi administration has supported MCCU all through. Through the office of the dean of students and the university chaplaincy, MCCU has been able to get help, communicate, voice concerns and also listen from the university fraternity for the support. MCCU has held annual missions since 1989. The first annual mission was held in Kisii. Tens of Thousands have come to Christ through MCCU missions. Many other missions have been held consequently.
In all truth MCCU is a union to thank God about. Of its existence, its impact, its mandate and its widespread reach, there have been no limit. MCCU has shaped and influenced many.
MCCU has grown to a point of diversifying its activities and making impact to the society at large. MCCU has activities like annual missions, mini-missions, leadership trainings, bible study, conferences, welfare ministry, compassion ministry, sports ministry, high school ministry, street visits etc.
